1.
What does the product do?
Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray helps
end or reduce fear-related, destructive behavior
in dogs and puppies. Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray works by mimicking
the natural pheromone released by the alpha female
dog while nursing, sending a signal of comfort
and safety to her puppies. When the dog or puppy
senses the pheromone through the nasal passage,
he feels secure and comfortable, reducing his
urge to act out through chewing, excessive barking,
house soiling or other fear-related behaviors.
Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray provides short-term comfort for dogs
and puppies in stressful situations, such as:
- Traveling in the
car
- Visits to the veterinarian
- Adoption into a new
home
- Adjusting to a new
environment
- Moving to a new home
- Visitors to the home
- New pet or family
member
- Training, walks and
trips to the park
- Thunderstorms and
fireworks, in addition to D.A.P.® diffuser
2. What is the
active ingredient?
In Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray, the active ingredient is
an analogue of the pheromone released by
the mother dog while nursing.
3. What are pheromones?
Pheromones
are natural chemicals secreted by animals to
communicate with other members of the same
species. Pheromones can be secreted from
various locations on the body. Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray mimics the "appeasing" pheromone
released by nursing mother dogs, sending a
signal of comfort and safety to the puppies.
4. What behaviors
cannot be expected to change?
As
with any product, there are limitations to
the effects. Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray
cannot solve dominance-related problems,
aggression problems, nor does it address communication problems
between the owner and the pet. Behavioral
conditions can result from many causes and most behavior problems in dogs require the use of behavior medication. Behaviors not resolved by using the products
should be addressed by a veterinarian.
5. How is the
product used?
This product should
be used 15 minutes prior to desired effects.
Spray 8-10 pumps in the general area where
the dog will be residing 15 minutes before
the dog is introduced into the environment
(car, carrier, etc.). Always refer to the
package insert for complete instructions
for use.
6. Can I spray
the product directly on my dog?
No.
Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray contains alcohol
and should not be directly sprayed on or
near an animal.
7. Where can this product
be used?
This product can be sprayed
directly on bedding, inside crates or kennels,
or in the car 15 minutes prior to introducing
the dog to the area. It can also be sprayed
on the bandana tied around your dog's neck
or on a towel near your dog.
8. How can I
keep my dog calm during transport?
For
transport in a crate or car, spray 8-10 pumps
of Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray in the
crate or car about 15 minutes before introducing
the dog. Reapply every 1 ½ -
2 hours as needed.
9. How long do the effects
of one usage last?
Each animal will
respond differently, but effects should last
approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours.
10. How many applications
are in each 60-ml bottle?
Each bottle contains approximately
50 applications, which is based on an average
of 8-10 sprays per use.
11. Will the
product stain or mark my furniture?
The
product should not stain or mark. Nevertheless,
owing to the wide variety of materials used
in household furnishings, we advise that
you test the product on a sample that is
not easily visible prior to using it.
12. What do I
do if my pet's behavior gets worse?
It
is very unlikely that Comfort Zone® with
D.A.P.®
will exacerbate any behavioral condition.
In such a situation, we recommend that you
call your veterinarian.
13. Should both the Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Diffuser and Spray products
be used together for better results?
Both the spray and diffuser
may be used in combination for best results
inside and outside of the home. The diffuser
provides long-term, 24-hour control inside
the home, while the spray provides short-term
control inside or outside the home.
14. If the Comfort Zone®
with D.A.P.® Spray is used in boarding facilities,
will there be a noticeable effect for the animals?
This
depends on where the product is used. In kennel
situations, many different types of pheromones
are released by dogs and cats, which may compete
with the Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray. There may also be a strong social challenge as some dogs may upset others. In
air-exchanged facilities, the effects may vary.
However, it is generally accepted that exposure
to pheromones found in the Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray will help reduce the stress of
your pet's stay.
15. If the Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray is used in grooming facilities,
will there be a noticeable effect for the animals?
The use of Comfort Zone® with D.A.P.® Spray in the grooming area should
help relax the dog. However, this depends on
both the level of stress/excitement the animal
feels, which could override the pheromone effect,
and the amount of time/exposure the pets have
to the pheromone in the area. Also, in air-exchanged
facilities, the effects may vary.
